Durrës is where the Minister of Education and Sports started a listening tour with Albanian universities, at the beginning of the new academic year, listening to opinions on how to make the academic offer more competitive for the students who choose to study in Albania.
The internationalization and profiling of universities, as well as the inclusion of study programs in foreign languages, were the focus of the meeting between the Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu, and the academic staff of “Aleksandër Moisiu” University in Durrës.
“Cooperation, dialogue, and joint proactive interaction is very important in order to achieve as many possible programs that are internationalized, granting double degrees that are carried out in foreign languages. We must start early, so that double degrees from the first to the third cycle are fully recognized in the curriculum and are taught in a foreign language”, stressed Minister Manastirliu.
During the meeting with the University Rector, Prof. Kseanela Sotirofski, the Deans, Heads of Departments, and lecturers of the “Aleksandër Moisiu” University, the Minister of Education and Sports also spoke about separating the university programs by profiles, updating them to meet the labor market’s current demands.
“There must be a joint evaluation of the existing programs for separating universities by profile. Today, we see that enrolments do not fill the foreseen quotas, therefore we need to make an assessment on how to ensure compatibility and improvement”, said Minister Manastirliu.
“Universities should become the cores of scientific research” – said Manastirliu, speaking about the law on science, which is soon to be adopted.
Minister Ogerta Manastirliu listened to the ideas and suggestions from the faculty professors, regarding the development of higher professional education curricula in a practical context, to deepen the cooperation with central and local institutions and businesses.
